Λίγα λόγια για τους μουσικούς:
Μουσικοσυνθέτης και οργανοποιός, ο Στέλιος Πετράκης μυήθηκε στην τέχνη της λύρας σε νεαρή ηλικία. Σήμερα αποτελεί έναν από τους κυριότερους νέους εκφραστές και ανανεωτές της, απαριθμώντας οκτώ προσωπικούς δίσκους, πολλές διεθνείς διακρίσεις. Με τα δύο τρέχοντα σχήματά του, το Κρητικό Κουαρτέτο και το τρίο Λόπεζ - Πετράκης - Σεμιράνι, ταξιδεύει τη μουσική του σε όλον τον κόσμο, δίνοντας συναυλίες σε σημαντικές αίθουσες παγκοσμίως όπως το Carnegie Hall στη Νέα Υόρκη, το Theatre de la Ville στο Παρίσι κλπ. Διατηρεί στο Ηράκλειο εργαστήρι κατασκευής μουσικών οργάνων φτιάχνοντας λύρες, λαούτα, μπουλγαριά και άλλα έγχορδα μεσαιωνικά και σύγχρονα μουσικά όργανα.
Με καταγωγή από την Κρήτη, ο Δημήτρης Σιδερής γεννήθηκε και μεγάλωσε στην Αθήνα όπου σπούδασε κλασσική κιθάρα στο Αττικό Ωδείο. Το 1997 κατεβαίνει στο Ρέθυμνο για να σπουδάσει Κοινωνιολογία στο Πανεπιστήμιο Κρήτης απ’ όπου αποφοιτά το 2002. Στα φοιτητικά αυτά χρόνια ξεκινά η ενασχόλησή του με το Κρητικό λαούτο και αρχίζει να παίζει επαγγελματικά σε τοπικές γιορτές & εκδηλώσεις. Από την εποχή εκείνη έως σήμερα έχει συνεργαστεί με εξέχοντες κρητικούς μουσικούς όπως οι: Δημήτρης Σγουρός, Ζαχαρίας Σπυριδάκης, Αντώνης Φραγκάκης, Γιώργης Ξυλούρης κ.ά. Το 2004 μαζί με τους Γιάννη Παπατζανή και Γιάννη Πολυχρονάκη υπογράφουν την ηχογράφηση & παραγωγή του δίσκου Ερωτόκριτος – Οι Λογισμοί είναι Σαϊτιές που κυκλοφόρησε από την FM Records. Το 2011 συμμετέχει καθοριστικά στην ηχογράφηση της ιστορικής έκδοσης Σκοποί & Τραγούδια της Κρήτης από το αρχείο του Παύλου Βλαστού 1860-1910 σε παραγωγή του Δ. Σγουρού, που εκδόθηκε απο την εταιρεία "Αιγις".
Σήμερα ζει στην Κρήτη, όπου ολοκληρώνει την Διδακτορική του Διατριβή πάνω στην Κρητική Μουσική Ταυτότητα (στο Τμήμα Φιλοσοφικών και Κοινωνικών Σπουδών της Φιλοσοφικής Σχολής Ρεθύμνου) και εργάζεται ως μουσικός και δάσκαλος στο Κρητικό λαούτο. Παράλληλα ειναι βασικός συντελεστής στα σχήματα Daulute και Babel Trio, συνθέτει πρωτότυπη μουσική και κάνει σόλο εμφανίσεις. Το 2015 ο Δημήτρης σχεδίασε και συν-κατασκεύασε ένα νέο, πρωτότυπο όργανο: το Ηλεκτρικό Λαούτο.
Ο Μιχάλης Κονταξάκης γεννήθηκε το 1984 στο Ηράκλειο Κρήτης όπου συνεχίζει και ζει μέχρι και σήμερα. Θεωρείται από τους σημαντικούς δεξιοτέχνες μαντολίνου στο νησί. Έχει εισάγει νέες τεχνοτροπίες και εκφραστικά στοιχεία και έχει παίξει ένα πολύ σημαντικό ρόλο στην εξέλιξη και διεύρυνση του κρητικού παιξίματος στο μαντολίνο. Ενδιαφέρον ιδέα που εισήγαγε πρώτη φορά στην δισκογραφία του είναι η χρήση microtonal μαντολίνου με σκοπό να προσεγγίσει μουσικά διαστήματα που συναντάμε στην λαϊκή μουσική της Κρήτης και όχι μόνο. Έχει στο ενεργητικό του τρεις προσωπικούς δίσκους με ήχους εμπνευσμένους από ήχους και τοπία της Κρήτης και του κόσμου. Έχει βιώσει την κρητική μουσική παράδοση μέσα από συνεργασίες με σημαντικούς λαϊκούς μουσικούς της Κρήτης όπως ο Βασίλης Σκουλάς, ο Μιχάλης Αλεφαντινός, ο Δημήτρης Σγουρός, ο Μιχάλης Σταυρακάκης. Σέβεται την μουσικής της Κρήτης και τις τεχνοτροπίες που προϋπάρχουν ωστόσο σήμερα παρουσιάζει τον ήχο του μέσα από πρωτότυπα μουσικά σχήματα (μαντολίνο – κρουστά, μαντολίνο – κόντρα μπάσο, μαντολίνο – ούτι – κρουστά κ.α) που διατηρεί μαζί με τους συνεργάτες του στο νησί της Κρήτης και στην Αθήνα. Έχει παρουσιάσει την δουλειά του σε σημαντικούς χώρους όπως την «Εναλλακτική Σκηνή της Εθνικής Λυρικής Σκηνής» και έχει συμμετάσχει στην χώρα Ομάν και στην Τυνησία σε συναυλίες του Naseer Shamma.

A few words about the musicians:
Stelios Petrakis began learning the art of the Cretan lyra in his hometown of Sitia. In 1983, he started his studies at the Sitia School of Music, learning to play the lyra with teachers Giannis Dandolos, Ross Daly, and Eleni Drettaki under the directorship of Kostas Mountakis. It was not long before he extended his interests to include Greek, Turkish, and Bulgarian repertoires, as well as that of Crete. Petrakis’s interests have led him to work with an impressive list of international artists who represent multiple Mediterranean musical traditions. He has appeared in concert and recorded with major musicians in world music (Ross Daly, Bijan Chemirani, Keyvan Chemirani, Ojos de Brujo, Patrick Vaillant) and traditional Cretan music (Giorgis Xylouris, Vasilis Stavrakakis, Michalis Stavrakakis, Mitsos Stavrakakis). In addition, he has worked with Greek musicians and composers (Christos Leontis, Stamatis Spanoudakis, Achilleas Persidis) and Spanish singer Manolo García.
He formed an instrumental trio with Valencian multi-instrumentalist Efrén López and Franco-Iranian percussionist Bijan Chemirani; the ensemble has toured Europe and India, and recently appeared at the “Jazz sous les pommiers” festival in France. Petrakis has performed as soloist at such major venues, including the Odeon of Herodes Atticus in Athens, Royal Albert Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, and the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris. He also has a lutherie workshop in Heraklion, where he makes his own instruments. Petrakis’s love and admiration for Cretan music led him to form the Cretan Quartet, with which he focuses on the great musical traditions of Crete with a repertoire that consists of traditional pieces and his own tradition-inspired compositions. The quartet produced a live recording in 2015, Avgi ts’ avgis (Crack of Dawn), which won the Coup de Coeur prize of the Académie Charles Cros and many more international awards. The ensemble has since appeared in such prestigious international festivals and venues, as WOMEX (UK), globalFEST (NYC), Rainforest World Music Festival (Malaysia), OdeGAND aand Balkan Trafik (Belgium) World Sacred Spirit Festival (India), Fes Festival of World Sacred Music (Marocco) and Théâtre de la Ville (Paris).
Born in Athens, Dimitris Sideris studies classical guitar at the Attiko conservatory. After moving to Crete in 1997, he graduates University of Crete, Department of Sociology and gets involved with the Cretan lute. Over the last 15 years he has been performing in traditional concerts and festivities, collaborating with prominent Cretan musicians such as Dimitris Sgouros, Zacharias Spyridakis, Antonis Fragakis, Giorgos Xylouris and others.
He is active in the educational field giving workshops in Greece and abroad, and currently conducting his PhD thesis on “Cretan music identity” at the Faculty of Philosophy & Social Studies in University of Crete. As a member of the bands Daulute and Babel trio and as a solo performer, he is developing a personal style on the Cretan lute integrating various eastern and western elements. In 2015, Dimitris designed and created a prototype musical instrument: the Electric Lute. His most recent music production, Lute Electric : Soundscape recordings of solo performance is captured on film by Before Sound_Filming Reality in Lute Electric the documentary.
Michalis Kontaxakis was born in 1984 in Heraklion of Crete where he is still residing. He is considered one of the most influential specialists of the mandolin on the island. He has introduced a distinctive style and new elements of expression and has played a major role in the evolution and expansion of the Cretan playing of the mandolin. One interesting idea he introduced first in his discography is the use of the microtonal mandolin, with the purpose of approaching musical intervals that we encounter in the folklore music of Crete and not only. His assets include three personal albums with sounds inspired by sounds and landscapes of Crete and the world. He has experienced the Cretan musical tradition through cooperations with major folk musicians of Crete such as Vasilis Skoulas, Michalis Alefandinos, Dimitris Sgouros, Michalis Stavrakakis. He respects the music of Crete and the styles that preexist, yet today, he is presenting his sound through original musical patterns (mandolin – percussion, mandolin – contrabass, Mandolin – oud – percussion, and more) which he is maintaining with his co-operators on the island of Crete and in Athens. He has presented his work in significant venues, like the “Alternative Scene of the Greek National Opera” and has participated in the country of Oman and Tunisia in concerts of the Naseer Shamma.
